Wakiso S5 Student Commits Suicide After Forced BCM Subject Combination By Her Mother

Students and teachers of Wampeewo senior secondary school in Wakiso district were stunned to hear that one of the students identified as Hawa Nantongo committed suicide over her mother forcing her to offer science subjects yet the student prefers ARTS subjects.

It’s alleged that Nantongo’s mother was summoned at the school several times to come to a consensus with her daughter. Nantongo, 17 years of Senior Five, was forced by her mother to offer Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics (BCM) yet the student wanted to take Divinity, Economics, and Luganda (DEL).

One of the students, whose identities were withheld, told this publication that Nantongo was always in tears because of the combination she was offering, claiming it was too hard for her, and the teachers tried to explain to the mother, but all in vain.

She insisted that she is only ready to pay for school dues only when Nantongo was offering BCM, even if she repeated Senior Six, she was ready to pay.

It’s alleged that on 6th June 2024 evening, Nantongo, who was in the boarding section, dodged the school gatekeeper by disguising as a day scholar and escaped, only to be found hanging on the rope at the nearby wetland area.

Police are yet to release a statement on the same, but the body was conveyed to Mulago mortuary for postmortem as investigations start to establish the actual cause of Nantongo’s death.
