Donald Trump is set to hold a major rally in Washington on January 19, just one day before his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States. Dubbed the “Victory Rally,” the event will take place at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. Trump has always preferred high-energy rally events where he can engage with his supporters in a more relaxed, spontaneous atmosphere, as opposed to the formality of speeches. The official inauguration ceremony will take place at the U.S. Capitol on January 20.
The rally is being promoted with a call for a massive turnout: “This is President Trump’s victory RALLY the day before being sworn in as the 47th President—the crowd needs to be HUGE!” an email to supporters urged. The indoor venue, which can hold about 20,000 people, will provide a more controlled environment following concerns after an assassination attempt restricted Trump’s outdoor events in the months prior.
Security around the rally will be tight due to the inauguration’s status as a national special security event, ensuring both federal and local law enforcement are fully equipped to manage the proceedings.
In an unconventional move, Trump has extended invitations to foreign leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, for his inauguration. While it’s unclear whether any world leaders will attend, this gesture would mark a departure from the traditional American political practice of limiting foreign dignitaries at such events.
Trump’s presidency is set to begin with bold promises, including an aggressive mass deportation plan and the imposition of heavy tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. He has also vowed to take immediate action to curb illegal immigration and the flow of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, into the U.S. Additionally, Trump has committed to ending Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine as one of his first foreign policy priorities.
