The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has expressed disappointment over the exploitation of his health to create discord within the kingdom.
Through Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga, the Kabaka condemned those who have politicized his illness. Mayiga delivered this message during the presentation of the Kingdom budget at Bulange, Mengo, stating that the Kabaka is actively leading and grateful for the support.
“I am pleased to inform you that His Majesty the King is present and actively leading,” Mayiga announced.
“Yesterday evening at 6 pm, I spoke with him on the phone, and he expressed gratitude to all those who have resisted the manipulation of unscrupulous individuals aiming to exploit his health crisis for their own agendas.”
“Some individuals believe they can leverage this situation to advance their personal ambitions… they are attempting to incite unrest in Buganda to further their objectives.”
Mayiga criticized individuals who persistently inquire about the Kabaka’s whereabouts, stating that they harbor no genuine concern for the kingdom. He asserted that these individuals should be disregarded, as they invent new allegations daily.
Mayiga, clearly impassioned, criticized political figures and others within the kingdom who persistently inquire about the Kabaka’s whereabouts.
“These individuals harbor no genuine concern for the kingdom and should be disregarded,” he asserted.
“They demand his return for treatment when he is here, and then demand his return again when he seeks medical care. Every day they invent new allegations.”
“They once declared him deceased, only to see him the next day with President Uhuru Kenyatta. Their shamelessness knows no bounds… you’d think they would apologize, but now they allege the king is in captivity. Do they think he’s a street urchin that can be rounded up by city authorities?”
The Kabaka commends the kingdom’s commitment to its activities and will return to Uganda once he is sufficiently recovered.
Since April, the king has been receiving treatment at the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre in Namibia. However, the kingdom is concerned that the monarch has not been able to enjoy peace of mind since his location was made public last month.
The facility has been bombarded with phone calls from Ugandans inquiring about the king’s health.Last month, the Namibian government disclosed the hospital where the Kabaka was receiving treatment after a group of Buganda royalists petitioned the Namibian Embassy in Germany.
The Namibian Ambassador in Berlin, HE Martin Andjaba, dismissed reports that the king had been “detained” and stated that visitors would be allowed if they met the necessary requirements.
