Two vehicles in Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s convoy were involved in an accident Friday evening, as she was returning to Kampala from an official event in Lwengo.
The incident took place at Lwera swamp in Kalungu District. According to Southern Region Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye, the vehicles involved were Toyota Hilux with registration numbers UG 0861Z and UG 1052Z.
The accident occurred when the driver of Hilux UG 0861Z attempted to overtake a truck carrying matooke but abandoned the maneuver upon seeing an oncoming vehicle.
During the return to the original lane, another vehicle in the convoy collided with it from behind, causing the driver to lose control.
Kasirye reported that traffic police from Kalungu responded to the scene and registered the serious incident under case number TAR58/2024.
A female passenger in the convoy sustained serious injuries and was transported to Nkozi hospital in Mpigi District.Both vehicles involved were towed to Police in Lukaya Town Council.
Despite the mishap, the Prime Minister was unharmed and resumed her journey to Kampala after a short delay, according to sources.
Today, Ms Nabbanja is scheduled to preside over government programs in Kyotera and Mpigi districts as part of national farmers mobilization efforts.
