Pressure Mounts on Trudeau to Resign: What’s Next for Canada’s Leadership?

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing growing calls to step down from both within his party and the public, following the unexpected resignation of one of his senior ministers, who criticized his budget handling. Trudeau, who has served nearly a decade in office, is increasingly unpopular due to issues like inflation and the rising cost of living.

Currently, there is no formal process to force him out in the immediate term. He could choose to resign voluntarily, or the Liberal Party could face a “no confidence” vote in Parliament, potentially leading to a general election that may favor the Conservative Party.

Should the Liberal Party survive such a vote — a scenario that seems less likely — Trudeau might remain in office until the next election. Meanwhile, some Liberal lawmakers, like Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson, are urging Trudeau to take time to reflect on the situation.
