Kampala’s Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial has secured FIFA’s prestigious certification, paving the way for local and international football matches. Businessman Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, announced the milestone on Monday, October 7.
The state-of-the-art Duo filament Mono football turf, installed by renowned Turkish company Nurteks Hali Sen.Ve Tic. A.S, has met FIFA’s stringent “FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf” standards. According to FIFA, “The football turf system Duo filament Mono has been installed… and certified to the ‘FIFA QUALITY PROGRAMME FOR FOOTBALL TURF – FIFA QUALITY’ standard.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino signed off on the certification, valid from October 4, 2024, to October 3, 2027. This achievement boosts Hamz Stadium’s reputation and enhances Uganda’s standing in global football.
As stated in the FIFA certificate, “FIFA is pleased to confirm that… the installation has been tested and certified” to international standards. This recognition opens doors for the stadium to host high-calibre matches.
The certified turf is poised to host various football matches, providing local talent with opportunities to play on FIFA-approved grounds and attracting international teams to Kampala. Three Uganda Premier League clubs have already applied to use the stadium as their home ground for the 2024/25 season.
With FIFA’s endorsement, football fans can expect improved playing conditions, ensuring high-quality matches. Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial’s newfound status is a significant milestone for Ugandan football.
