KAGADI
Elderly persons in Kagadi district under the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) program have received their monthly stipend with a lot of happiness and joy.
At least 1890 elderly persons are registered to benefit from the SAGE program in Kagadi district and begun receiving their pay on Monday this week.
Through the grant, the government gives out a monthly stipend of Shs 25,000 to persons aged above 80 years in different parts of the country.
The Kagadi district Community Development officer Kiiza Ponsiano Ngondwe said they started disbursing SAGE funds on Monday in Kyaterekera town council and Sub-county and yesterday served Bwikara Sub-county and today Wednesday, they paid funds to elderly persons from Kagadi town council at Kagadi community hall.
He says the exercise continues to other areas to cover the entire district.
Kiiza adds that each elderly person is entitled to receive 25,000 shillings but received shs150,000 to cover the previous six months.
He says the registration process has begun to enroll more elderly persons that have clocked 80 years to the program.
Kiiza commended the government for fulfilling its obligation to pay the elders and urged the beneficiaries to use the funds well to improve their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the elderly persons have hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM government for introducing the initiative to better their wellbeing and promised him support in the next elections.
