Adjumani town has been thrust into chaos as gunfire erupted following a dramatic chase. Bodaboda riders from Itirihwa relentlessly pursued a truck carrying charcoal from Zoka all the way to the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) compound.
Eyewitnesses report that these determined locals, including residents from Itirihwa, Ofua, and Adropi, are resolute in their mission to stop these trucks from transporting charcoal.
The situation escalated when the police responded with live ammunition, seemingly in an effort to quell the potential for civil unrest that could unfold during the night. The community alleges that the police are siding with Mr. Ogume and his associates, who, along with certain local leaders, have been accused of intimidating the populace. This perceived partiality has inflamed tensions, leading to calls for accountability.
Critics are questioning the whereabouts and actions of Members of Parliament (MPs) and the Local Council 5 (LC5) amid these escalating conflicts. The frustration and anger within the community are palpable, with many warning that continued police brutality will only intensify civil disobedience. The situation is on a knife-edge, with the potential for further unrest if these issues are not addressed promptly.
The cries of “Shame!” resonate through the streets as the community demands justice and an end to the violence. The unfolding events in Adjumani serve as a stark reminder of the deep-seated issues and the urgent need for resolution to prevent further escalation.
