Bobi Wine Calls on Youth to Take Leadership Roles in 2025 Elections

Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has called on young Ugandans to take an active role in leadership, particularly in the upcoming youth elections on January 20, 2025.

Speaking to the media in Kampala on Monday, Kyagulanyi encouraged the youth to run for positions in both local government and legislative elections. He emphasized that true leaders must always prioritize the needs of the people.

“As leaders, remember that NUP is built on the People Power movement. The interests of the people must always be central,” he stated, underscoring the importance of people-centered leadership.

Kyagulanyi also reminded Ugandans that the struggle for liberation is a collective effort, with every citizen having equal rights and a role in shaping the country’s future.

Describing 2025 as a “revolutionary year,” Kyagulanyi expressed optimism that the oppressed would seize the chance to break free from what he described as the “dictatorship and authoritarian reign of the military junta.”

He also addressed internal party matters, revealing that a legal case filed by his former deputy president is attempting to prevent him from participating in politics for the next ten years. This legal challenge has delayed the finalization of NUP’s party constitution.

Regarding recent threats from the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), who reportedly made posts about wanting to “behead” him, Kyagulanyi reassured the public that he would not be intimidated. He stated, “When you have God by your side, no human being can intimidate you.”

Kyagulanyi also condemned the CDF’s involvement in partisan politics, calling it unconstitutional.
