Qatar Airways has announced an increase in its flight frequency from Doha to Entebbe, Uganda, from a daily service to 11 weekly flights, effective from August 1 to September 30.
This increase is part of Qatar Airways’ strategy to enhance air connectivity across Africa and strengthen economic, business, and cultural ties. The additional flights to Entebbe demonstrate the airline’s commitment to the Ugandan market and are expected to boost Uganda’s export growth.
Qatar Airways currently operates 180 flights per week to various African destinations, and this number expands to over 900 weekly flights when including codeshare partners. The increased frequency ensures better connectivity for passengers traveling from Uganda to the USA, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It also supports trade and tourism growth between Uganda and Qatar, offering convenience for point-to-point passengers with early arrivals in Doha.
“The increased frequency guarantees improved connectivity for passengers traveling from Uganda to the USA, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It also supports the growth of trade and tourism between Uganda and Qatar while offering convenience for point-to-point passengers to save a day’s travel due to the early arrival in Doha,” said Qatar Airways Vice President – Africa, Hendrik du Preez.
With Africa representing 18% of the world’s population but less than 2% of air transport activity, Qatar Airways sees significant opportunities in the continent. The airline is expanding connectivity by increasing the number of destinations it serves, boosting frequencies, and partnering with African airlines.
The additional flights to Entebbe follow the introduction of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), into Qatar Airways’ network of over 170 global destinations. Kinshasa is now connected with the Middle East, Europe, and Asia through four weekly flights, which also increased capacity to Angola, with flights to Luanda rising from one to four.
For the financial year 2023/2024, Qatar Airways reported an annual profit of US$ 1.7 billion, the highest in 27 years and 39% higher than the previous year. The total revenue increased by 6% (US$ 1.3 billion) to US$ 22.2 billion.
In 2023/24, Qatar Airways’ network expanded to over 170 destinations, adding new routes to Al Ula, Neom, and Tabuk in Saudi Arabia; Lyon and Toulouse in France; Medan in Indonesia; and Trabzon in Turkey. The airline also resumed operations to 14 destinations, including Birmingham in the UK; Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing in China; Davao in the Philippines; Tokyo Haneda and Osaka in Japan; Marrakesh in Morocco; Nice in France; Penang in Malaysia; Phnom Penh in Cambodia; Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE; and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia.
