Kabaka’s Health Condition In Namibia Scares President Museveni, Summons All Buganda Clan Heads To A Special Meeting At State House

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to meet Buganda Kingdom clan heads this weekend, according to highly placed sources in the Kingdom clan council.

The meeting is expected to take place at Entebbe State House, and a section of the clan heads who have been selected to attend have been taken to a private facility to undergo Covid-19 tests.

One of the clan heads revealed that Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, the State Minister in Charge of Information, Communication, and Technology, has been coordinating the said meeting.

“We are not surprised because we have been waiting for this meeting. Remember when we meet the president in 2023, and he fulfilled his promise by buying for us a land. He however got very busy but promised to call us for a very lengthy meeting with us to discuss several issues concerning Buganda especially on land, fighting poverty among our grandchildren, culture and our position in Buganda because the currently Kingdom administration has been undermining us,” a clan head said.

He added that the President has summoned them at a time when they were seeking funds to travel to Namibia to meet their clan heads council chairperson and also the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

Buganda Kingdom premier Charles Peter Mayiga confirmed that Kabaka Mutebi is in Namibia resting, following the advice of his doctors in Europe. However, allegations persist that the Kabaka is in Namibia receiving medication.

“We want the president’s guidance because we know his intelligence has briefed him on everything that the Kabaka is going through. He is the one who is paying his medical bills, so we also want to have a discussion with him on the way forward,” a clan head said.

He disclosed that they want to know the truth about the Kabaka’s life because there are allegations that the Kabaka is currently being hidden in one of his palaces in Buganda, receiving medication.

Since 2019, the Kabaka has been in and out of hospital locally and internationally. The clan head further noted that they will also discuss with the President how they are going to develop their land at Mengo, opposite the Kingdom headquarters, which he bought for them.

They already have a plan to put up a huge commercial building. He admitted that not all clan heads will meet the President because they are scared of Mayiga’s backlash.

When Museveni met clan heads in 2023, Mayiga was bitter, warning them that it was wrong to meet the President without his or the Kabaka’s permission.

The meeting will take place on the same day as the finals of the Buganda Kingdom football clan tournament at Walukulugu stadium. This means a section of clan heads will not attend, including the Kabaka.

Clan heads have been complaining that Mayiga has been denying them the opportunity to meet the Kabaka, even threatening to impeach their council speaker, Omuttaka Ssalongo Augustine Mutumba, for allegedly being in bed with Mayiga and undermining them.
