The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has assured teachers across the country that the Government will enhance their salaries but in a phased manner.
Nabbanja was this evening speaking during the celebrations to commemorate world Teachers’ day at Birembo war memorial primary school grounds in Kakumiro district.
Nabbanja says that the government recognizes the role played by teachers in the development of the human resource in the country.
Nabbanja responding to concerns raised by teachers assured them that the government began with scientists but will enhance even the salaries of the Arts teachers.
Nabbanja asked the teachers to desist from social evils and stop absenting themselves from schools yet the government pays them their salary promptly.
Asiimwe Akwehaire Fred, the chairperson of the UNATU Kakumiro branch, appealed to the government to invest more in education for a better future.
The National Teachers’ Day event, under the theme, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” brought together educators from across Nakaseke, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing the education sector and calling for government action to address them.
