Ministry of health has selected five districts in Lango to benefit from malaria vaccination program.
Speaking at the National Malaria Elimination meeting held at Oyam district Council hall, Ismail Kabugo, the Social Behavioral Officer in ministry of health listed the five selected district in Lango to benefit from malaria vaccination program as; Oyam, Kole, Lira-City, Alebtong and Dokolo.
Kabugo called on different agencies to promote malaria vaccination exercise to curb malaria prevalence.
Benson Walter Dilla Oyuku, the LC5 chairman of Oyam district, cautioned against individuals falsely claiming to heal malaria through prayer, warning that such misinformation could mislead the public regarding the vaccination efforts.
Shilaku James, the Resident District Commissioner of Oyam, expressed his support for the initiative, stating that his office would fully assist in mobilizing the community to participate in the malaria vaccination program.
Betty Owani, the secretary for health and education of Oyam district welcomed the initiative and asked the people of Oyam district to continue adhering to malaria preventative measures to curb the disease.
According to the Ministry of Health, the malaria vaccination program, primarily aimed at children, is set to commence this month.
Uganda is among several countries in Africa, including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Niger, and Sierra Leone, that have been identified by the World Health Organization to receive a total of 18 million doses of malaria vaccines.
